sView for Debian-based Linux distributions
The official sView repository for Ubuntu is now placed on Launchpad. After adding PPA into your system you can install sView using this command from console:
sudo apt-get install sview
Please notice that since some release Ubuntu provides package "sview" with exactly the same name, which is unfortunate name collision. Adding PPA will substitute this package.
To launch sView from command line you should type one of the options:
sView [media_file_name]
sView --in=image
Other systems:
- Build sView from source code: github.com/gkv311/sview
- Install packages maintained by community, like sView-AppImage.
Please contact me if you want to maintain package(s) for other Linux distributions.

Extra info for macOS users
sView has no digital signature and requires additional installation steps on macOS where unsigned applications are blocked by default. There is no need lowering security level system-wide to launch sView! Instead, an exception for specific application could be added:
- Install sView (drag "sView.app" to "/Applications").
- Navigate to "/Application" in the Finder.
- Open the context menu for "sView.app" holding Shift key and choose "Open".
- Click "Open" in appeared dialog to ignore unsigned application warning (notice that this cannot be done in Launchpad, and without Shift key there will be no option to Open application!).
You need to perform this operation just once after installation. After this sView can be used without restrictions!
